HISPANIC MINISTRIES

Background Cross

Hispanic Ministries are a natural focus for Christians in the Western part of the United States, with Mexico so close. And we cannot ignore the fact that an increasing number of Hispanics are our neighbors in the Portland Metro region.

There are two major components of LGPC's focus on Hispanic ministries.

First we are working with the Hispanic community in the Woodburn area. Here we work through the Oregon Farm Workers Ministry. The SS Esperanza Mariners Group collects food at the church and delivers it to the Oregon Food Bank for distribution to farm workers. Sewing classes are also offered through the community center at Nuevo Amanecer Apartments.

The second focus of LGPC’s Hispanic Ministries is the Northwest Theological Institute (NTI), which offers a unique range of educational programs to develop and train Christian leaders for the Hispanic community. These include computer instruction (LGPC was among the first to provide support for their growing computer lab), tutoring for GED tests, English instruction, basic Biblical instruction, as well as more advanced theological training. They also offer Spanish language instruction for English speakers who wish to serve the Hispanic community.

In everything we do we seek to build understanding and develop closer relationships with our Hispanic brothers and sisters in the Portland Metro area.

For more information about our Hispanic Ministries partnerships, please contact Nancy Marshall, Coordinator of Hispanic Ministries.
