JOB DESCRIPTION

 CHILDREN’S MINISTRY INTERN

 

PURPOSE        

1. To train and equip a faithful intern for the work of the ministry as they discern their calling to a profession in children’s ministry.

2. To assist in the on-going children’s ministry of Lake Grove Presbyterian Church.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Children's Ministry intern will be accountable to the Director of Children’s Ministry (Susie Graham) and to the Associate Pastor for Equipping (Rev. Graig Flach).

RESPONSIBILITIES 

1.  Assist weekly in supporting the volunteers in Sunday School.

2.  Weekly mentoring meetings with the Director of Children's Ministry to discuss goals

and responsibilities.

3.  Assist and prepare for Discovery Bible Camp (June 16-20).

4.  Assist, attend and prepare for Camp Tilikum (June 30-Jul 3).

5.  Assist and prepare for fellowship activities (Games on the Green & 45ers)

6.  Research appropriate program and supplies for music, games, crafts, food and

devotionals.

7.  Work with the Children's Ministry staff in developing a timeline of scheduled events,

publicity, recruiting of volunteers, training of volunteers and program format.

QUALIFICATIONS

A qualified candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Christ and Christian ministry.
  • Feel called to professional ministry, specifically working with children.
  • Possess and exhibit a genuine love for children.
  • Show a strong desire to win young people for Christ.
  • Have the ability to learn hands-on and the desire to be mentored.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate personal relationships with children, parents, volunteer leaders, and church staff.
  • Have demonstrated previous leadership skills and history of servanthood.  Be committed to working as an active member of the children's ministry staff.
  • At least 18 years of age and a graduate from high school.

COMMITMENT

A commitment of one summer season is required in accepting this position.  Dates are June 9 through August 17.  This commitment may or may not coincide with internship requirements from an academic institution.

PROVISIONS

This position provides a unique opportunity to work with a healthy children's ministry, learn the responsibilities needed for effective leadership, and obtain the skills and knowledge to discern whether ministry to children might be a career choice. This is a part-time, non-exempt position for 10 weeks during the summer. 

EVALUATION

If the internship coincides with school course credit, the Directors of Children's Ministry will work with the intern to complete all requirements and evaluations to meet course credit requirements. Formal evaluation may be made in conjunction with the LGPC Personnel Commission as it pertains to the Intern’s paid position at LGPC.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 YOUTH MINISTRY INTERN

PURPOSE 

1. To train and equip a faithful intern for the work of the ministry as they discern their calling to a profession in youth ministry

2. To assist in the on-going youth ministry of Lake Grove Presbyterian Church

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Youth Ministry intern will be accountable to the Director and Asst. Director of Youth Ministries.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in weekly MS & HS youth groups
  • Participate in summer events and activities
  • Attend weekly equipping meetings with youth ministry staff
  • Develop area of special focus/ministry niche appropriate with gifting and/or sense of call
  • Plan two special summer outings as part of the Super Tuesday - Thrilling Thursday summer youth ministry
  • Perform routine office tasks as directed by supervisors

QUALIFICATIONS

A qualified candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Christ and Christian ministry
  • Desire to explore their personal calling to vocational ministry, specifically working with youth.

LAKE GROVE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

POSITION DESCRIPTION

TitleAssistant Director of Youth Ministries

Purpose:   To provide a vibrant Christ-centered ministry for the youth of Lake Grove Presbyterian Church and to guide and equip them on their faith journey

 

Accountability:  The Assistant Director of Youth Ministries reports to the Director of Youth Ministries.

 

Work Schedule:  Generally Sunday through Thursday

 

Evaluation:  Annual reviews are conducted by the Director of Youth Ministries and submitted to the Executive Director of Ministries and the Personnel Commission.

Responsibilities

 

Program:

  •  High School (Entheos)
    • Build, equip, and maintain a team of volunteer leaders.
    • Implement a biblically-based and cluturally relevant ministry vision through high school programming. Provide holistic programming to meet the needs of students in each of four quadrants: knowledge, community, worship, and ministry/service.
    • Build relationships with students.
      • Be responsible for Entheos high school youth group meetings.
    • Facilitate small group ministry for Entheos students.
    • Provide a Sunday morning discussion time or class for 9th-12th grades.
    • Provide annual thirteen-week confirmation class.
    • Lead an annual student mission that challenges students to experience the fullness of Christ through knowing Him and making Him known.
    • Provide local mission opportunities throughout the calendar year.
    • Oversee youth ministry fund-raising efforts (B.A.S.H.).
      • Plan and organize trips and monthly events for high school students.
      • Use all church channels for scheduling and promoting high school events.
    • Ensure accurate address and attendance records are maintained.
    • Make a strategic contribution to the Middle School ministry.
      • Be a known and accepted part of the Fish community.
      • Assist with major program pieces such as retreats and Suttle Lake Camp.
      • Attend special events that contribute to building relationships with students.
      • Advocate and be an ambassador for youth within the greater church body building bridges between the older and the younger.
      • Be available for counseling students and parents or facilitating professional counseling by referral, with input from the pastoral staff.

Administration

    • Co-develop program vision in cooperation with the Director of Youth Ministries.
    • Be the primary leader in the absence of the director.
    • Analyze and report to the director and to the Christian Education & Nurture Commission financial costs associated with trips and events.
    • Provide excellent communication to students, families, and the congregation about current events and new directions in the high school ministry.
    • Attend Christian Education and Nurture Commission Meetings.
    • Participate in Session twice per year and when the annual youth ministry report is given for Confirmation.

 

Miscellaneous

    • Grow spiritually in knowledge and depth of insight of scripture and theology.
    • Model a life submitted to Jesus Christ and in love with God.
    • Lead staff and students by example, seeking to have a vibrant and growing relationship with God (Gal 5:22, 2Ti 2:2), including a growing understanding of Scripture and theology.
    • Be equipped to guide students on their faith journey.
    • Establish rapport with families in the youth ministry.
    • Provide resources for parents and families involved in the youth ministry.
    • Be able to practically articulate and implement the “Get Connected, Get Changed, Get Going” process with individual students as outlined in the Youth Ministry Team Handbook conveying the concepts of knowledge, community, worship, and service.
    • Stay current on trends and movements within youth culture and the youth ministry community.

 

While still being fully responsible/accountable, the Assistant Director of Youth Ministries may, and should, delegate to volunteer staff and/or the Program Assistant as approved by the Director of Youth Ministries.
